Words of Wisdom

More words of wisdom from Rabbi Dr. Lynn Kesselman’s book The Five Gates:
We experience our lives one idea and event after
another, but we experience ourselves, the result of our
lives, all at one time in the present without realizing exactly
how we changed gradually to be who we are today. p. 148

Lynn Kesselman Five Gates Book

November 17, 2009

After going through the five gates program I feel a sense of pride at having gone through such a thorough program. Although it wasn’t always easy, I can now see the benefit of what I’ve been through. Near the end of the book, The Five Gates, Dr. Lynn Kesselman says the following.
We’ve done a lot of work, and we have been forced to
look at things we didn’t enjoy. Right now our life is on the
“cutting room floor,” and it’s finally time to do the healing
job of editing what all of this means to us. If we didn’t have
problems we wouldn’t be here. It’s time for us to see how
we have always been shaped, for better or worse, by all the
influences  that  have  acted  upon  us.  Once  we  see  this
clearly, we will know: “We are not our history, we are our
possibilities.” Try to stay focused on how your mistaken
beliefs about yourself and life have held you prisoner.
